Dr. Robert Koffie is a board certified, fellowship-trained complex and minimally invasive spine neurosurgeon. He completed his medical school at Harvard Medical School, where he graduated magna cum laude. While at Harvard he also completed a PhD in biophysics and has published many research articles and book chapters in neurosurgery and spine. He also holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. Dr. Koffie received his neurosurgery training at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, one of the premier training institutions in the world. He then completed a minimally invasive and complex spine fellowship at the Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona.

What is minimally invasive spine surgery?

It's a surgical approach that uses smaller incisions and specialized instruments to reach the spine with less disruption to surrounding muscle and tissue — which typically means less pain, less blood loss, and a faster recovery than traditional open surgery.

How long is recovery after spine surgery?

It depends on the procedure. Many minimally invasive procedures allow patients to go home the same day or the next, with a return to light activity in 1–2 weeks and full recovery over several weeks to a few months. Your surgeon will walk you through what to expect for your specific procedure.

Do you accept my insurance?

How soon can I be seen?

We keep appointments available across both our Arizona and Wisconsin locations, and often can see new patients within the same week. Request an appointment online or call us directly.

Do I need a referral to see a specialist?

In most cases, no — you can request an appointment directly. Some insurance plans do require a referral, so it's worth checking with your provider before your visit.

What conditions do you treat?

Herniated discs, spinal stenosis, sciatica, degenerative disc disease, scoliosis, spinal fractures, and other neck and back conditions, ranging from mild discomfort to complex spinal disorders.

What happens during my first consultation?
